Biography
Dr. Karen Gripp is a board-certified pediatrician and medical geneticist, and Professor of Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA. She is an active participant in national and international collaborative research networks and professional societies, including the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Dr. Gripp is a recognized authority in the phenotypic delineation of RASopathies, including Costello syndrome, and other congenital anomaly syndromes. She serves on the ClinGen Expert Panels for RASopathies and Inherited Cancer Predisposition Syndromes, contributing to the curation and classification of genetic variants critical to clinical decision making.
Dr. Gripp contributed substantially to the literature through advancing the understanding of genotype-phenotype correlations in pediatric genetic conditions. Most recently she reported the identification of fetal fentanyl syndrome, a novel phenotype observed in infants with prenatal fentanyl exposure in the context of maternal opioid use disorder.
Her longstanding interest in next-generation phenotyping — the application of advanced computational and artificial intelligence–based approaches to the recognition of syndromic facial patterns — led to her appointment as Chief Medical Officer at FDNA, the company providing Face2Gene, a tool leveraging machine learning to assist clinicians in the evaluation of patients with suspected syndromic conditions.
